Pointr builds indoor mapping and wayfinding technology for large, complex venues, with a focus on helping attendees navigate busy events more easily.

I connected with Marianne Slamich (CMO, Pointr) to understand how they approach mapping differently than most event platforms. Pointr creates detailed 3D maps from floor plans and delivers live blue dot positioning indoors, even at massive convention centers, often using existing WiFi access points rather than additional hardware.

Marianne also shared how Pointr solves a common event challenge: static floor plans that do not help attendees find booths, sessions, or meeting rooms once they are on site. Their technology supports guided navigation, app based and app free experiences, and provides organizers with insight into how spaces are actually used during an event. Pointr is not limited to single events. They also support permanent installations at convention centers through connected venue programs, where maps stay active year round and event specific layers are added as needed.

In CECI’s evolving framework, solutions like this may relate to Venue and Spatial Planning Technology, Engagement, Experience and Enablement Technology, and Operations Technology, but ultimately, category fit is for vendors and the community to help clarify as the model matures.
